Me...You...and Social Media

Technology rules us. It's how we access just about EVERYTHING. What once took minutes to find and do now takes seconds. However, what I have realized is that my generation is becoming less relational and more technological.

Most of us are late 80s early 90s babies; which mean we tend to be more computer savvy. We have had many outlets from Myspace, tagged, twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, and the big one Facebook. Don't get me wrong, I love social media. It can be whatever you need it to be: entertainment, an outlet for business, and a connection piece for family. WHATEVER YOU NEED LITERALLY but what scares me is when it becomes our weapon of mass destruction, a diary, and primary form of communication.

How many of us can spend a day with family without checking social media? If you can, cool but if not, why? I was bad at this! When I would wake up I would check my Facebook, Instagram, and, Snapchat. It was a on automatic thing. I would communicate with people I knew on social media directly or indirectly. Be real, you know the post, meme, video, or comment we put when we in our feeling about something or someone that hurt our feelings. I would tell you what I ate, what color I had on, and the list keeps going. Oh, I can't forget the countless times I was able to play "pretend to be something I'm not" because I'm behind a screen. As if people didn't know me in real life. This was my STAGE and Social Media was my IDOL GOD.

Idols don't have to be deep; its just anything you put before God. Voids still weren't filled and I was not satisfied. So, I had to have a COMING TO JESUS meeting with myself to realize that the effort I was putting into social media was not what I was getting back in return! I was wasting my life and time...Time I couldn't get back. Plus, I started to be noticed as the girl who was always on her phone. How do you want to be remembered? Do you want people to value what you say or think you are a very bipolar, fickle minded person? I'm just saying, social media has away of making us look petty and moody! My dad always tells me; When everything you have fades away(naturally speaking), make sure your word has value. Romans 14:16 says Let not your good be evil spoken of! It may be a good feeling, thought, comment, share, and I could keep going, however, are you helping or hurting by doing it?

We don't really understand that the enemy is the Prince of the air and he uses these outlets to kill, steal, and destroy. We make it easy for the devil to expose us, our loved ones, enemies, or even friends because we rather talk to social media than the Holy Spirit. I know it gives an instant response and we don't have to build relationships but be very cautious about what type of audience you are building for yourself.

Social media can be a powerful tool or a dangerous weapon! What do you hold in your hand?

Something to think about!
