Verbal Discretion Advised

There is something that is seemingly annoying, if I may be frank, as it concerns the dialogue coming from, US, millennials. Now I understand that the world we live in and the constitution stands for freedom of speech. Meaning that you have the RIGHT to voice your opinion, thoughts, and concerns if they don’t infringe on others. However, there’s a part of this right that we see backfire on us ALL THE TIME!

THE CONSEQUENCE!

Yes, I said the consequence! No one has an issue with us using our 1st amendment right but I’ve learned that when it starts to take wind, people are going to respond, and the cute well-spoken opinion I gave stated about a person, circumstance, or thing that has become a social media phenomenon (we love getting info from Facebook) can be the cause of a great downfall especially if i'm in God's business!

I have learned some hard lesson from always NEEDING to respond to everything! Not only did it show my lack of self-control; It was foolish, unreliable, impulsive, and could not be validated with facts naturally speaking. Furthermore, as a believer, that was supposed to have the holy spirit living on the inside that leads and guides me into all truth, I was not saying what God wanted me to say; if anything at all!

Think about it, when you enter a courtroom there is a high level of honor and respect that must be shown to the judge, law, and situation at hand. You can’t just say whatever, act unruly, and get away with it. No ma’am… No sir! The judge gives the warning if they want (can we say grace!) and if you don’t straight up; you become contempt of court. Which means you can experience jail time, have to pay a monetary fine, or some other form of strong punishment. Oh! lets not forget your side of the story whether it be true or not won't be heard until further notice, if you ever get that opportunity again.

You may be thinking that is dramatic but it’s not! God does us the same way. There are consequences that come from a lack of dignity, dishonor, disrespect toward authority, and foolishly speaking. Yes, millennials like myself have access to information in ways unexplainable. However, just because we are knowledgeable of something doesn’t mean we need to speak on it.

Proverbs talks about this frequently. This book gives us a description of a wise and foolish man and the frequent thing that stood out was that the “Wise” man is slow to speak, quick to listen, then he speaks but ONLY because he knows what he is talking about. On the other hand, the fool talks too much and most times it’s out of ignorance.

Just because there is a space and opportunity to speak…. DOESN’T MEAN WE NEED TOO OR GOD WANTS YOU TOO!

I know we were are taught in society that we have the right to speak our minds but we don’t have any rights because they were bought at the cross. AND I’m learning that most times that my so-called “right” is a definite “Wrong” in God’s sight. Listen! I’m not saying there won’t be opportunities where we are vocal but we must make sure we are not ignorant and careless in our delivery. Because the same way you can be in contempt of court naturally; God can and will do the same thing, ESPECIALLY, when you are discussing his bride (The Church).

So, be wise in your speaking. I learned that when the judge drops the gavel and you’re in contempt, your facts, opinions, and feelings won’t matter or be heard anyway. All that the court will care about is that you satisfy the punishment.
